Description
During a tour of historic homes in Beaufort, NC, I joined my artist friends to paint plein air at different locations around the harbor area. The expanse of outdoor views provided by the front porches on the Duncan house intrigued me, and my husband and I set up my supplies there. I also found it so interesting that the tree at the side of the house was permanently sculpted by the relentless ocean breezes so that it looked as if it was wind-blown toward the back of the house, yet the beautiful American flag was teased by the weather of that day in a different direction. The storm clouds in the painting were real, and eventually I had to pack up the painting and finish it back in my studio from photos. But the silver lining in those clouds was that it gave me a chance to go inside for the tour and see the wonderful house! If the Duncan House is on tour again in the future, visitors to Beaufort should go by to enjoy it.
