Description
I've wanted to paint this subject for six years. When asked if this tree should be cut down because it obstructed a view at Hampton Plantation in 1790, guest George Washington said no, to save the oak. After more than two centuries of hurricanes, lightning, and other hazards to trees, this oak still stands.
Among the photos I took to the Albert Handell workshop was one of my trip to Hampton Plantation with this tree as the subject. He selected it for me to do on the first day, but I didn't have the green colors in my pastels to finish. Back at home now and with my art supply order arrived, I've completed the painting. It is framed and ready to hang in an upcoming solo exhibit, unless of course it sells first!
