Two Meeting Street Inn is steeped in romantic history, and its location at the Battery at White Point Gardens in Charleston is perfectly suited for catching ocean breezes from a rocker on the piazza! I painted this pastel from a photograph I took when I gave my parents a stay there for their 50th Wedding Anniversary. The sun was setting, casting a wonderful warm glow over everything. The original is framed in a gallery-quality gold frame with a slight blue haze in the crevices to enhance the blues in the painting.

Thanks so much, Will. What a thoughtful description you've given of this scene--so much like my own intentions in painting it! If you have never been to see this historical site, I hope you will someday be able to get there. You will absolutely love it!

Thank you all so much for the encouraging comments--I love it when a painting brings a blessing to others! This is perhaps my favorite painting that I've done in pastels. I'd love to be sitting in one of these rocking chairs with icy lemonade, with nothing to do but enjoy the sunset, the sounds of water, and sea birds in the Charleston harbor.
