Though the purple streaks in the background of this painting are actually cypress tree trunks, the effect is that of falling rain. When I asked friends to help me think of a title for the painting, one suggested "Purple Rain." I loved it!
The setting is in a quiet marsh, perhaps at dawn when the marsh is still in shadow but first light illuminates the heron.
As an artist whose main muse is the S.C. Low Country, this painting is my first effort to paint with acrylic on a black primed canvas. The painting continues around the gallery wrapped edge. It is beautifully framed, but no framing is necessary if a collector prefers a contemporary look. .
