A Monarch butterfly landed on my straw summer hat at the Butterfly House at the Coastal Discovery Museum in Hilton Head Island, SC. It must have been disappointed to find the sunflower wasn't real! As I painted the scene, I noticed for the first time that the butterfly's body is polka-dotted.
